William J. Hay
McHENRY - William J. Hay, 92, a longtime resident of Pistakee Highlands, McHenry, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Centegra Hospital - McHenry.

He was born Jan. 29, 1917, in St. Paul, Minn., to James and Leona nee Imholt Hay. He was married Sept. 10, 1949, in Melrose Park, to Loretta Stahl.

He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had been employed by Pickard China in Antioch as a kiln operator before his retirement. He was a member of The Lakes Region American Legion Post 703 of Fox Lake, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, and had enjoyed gardening, golf, his many pets, and spending time outdoors with his family.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Debra (Charles) Sergeant of Woodstock and Kathryn (Julio Ojeda) Shanahan of Pistakee Highlands, McHenry; his grandsons, Christopher and Jeremy Sergeant, both of Woodstock; and his nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Delores "Dode" Gerbig and Frances Stay; and his wife, Loretta Hay, on Oct. 8, 1999.

The visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake, (the chapel on the lake, a block west of Route 12, and a half-block North of Grand Avenue). The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, until the 11 a.m. funeral Mass celebration at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg. Friends and family are to go directly to the church Thursday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Fremont Center in Fremont Center.

Masses would be appreciated by the family.
