Theodore "Ted" Spengel
Theodore "Ted" Spengel, founder of Spengel Meat Packing and longtime resident of McHenry/Johnsburg, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at home.
He was born on April 5, 1927 to Walter and MaryAnn (nee Petlock) Spengel in Chicago, IL.
He was an Army Air Force Corporal during World War II. He was the founder and owner of Ted's Wholesale Meats in Calumet Park, IL and later Spengel Meat Packing in McHenry/Johnsburg, IL. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, VFW Fox River Post #4600 in McHenry, former school board member of St. John's Grade School and Marian Central. He was a member of McHenry Country Club from 1964-2011 and club president from 1974-1977 and served on its board for 17 years.
Ted was an avid golfer. Dedication to and support of McHenry Country Club was a priority. Family was the world to him. He loved it the most when the whole family was together, especially on Christmas Eve.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia (nee Nespeca) Spengel; his dear children Gary (Lydia) Spengel, Pam (Marty) Patterson, Kim (Mike) Johnson, Joy (Steve) Rossman, Scott (Diane) Spengel and Keith (Trish) Spengel; his daughter-in-law Linda "Missy" Spengel; his dear grandchildren Valya, Tony, Curtis, Brian, Michael, Sarah, Andrew, Nicholas, Emilie, Lee (Amanda), Luke, William, Eric, Stephanie, Ben and Dane. Numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive. He was preceded by his son, Craig; his parents, Walter and MaryAnn; his siblings Vincent Spengel, John Spengel, Katherine Michalski, Walter Spengel and Joseph Spengel.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 9 PM on Wednesday, May 25, at Justen Funeral Home, 3700 Charles J. Miller Rd., McHenry.
On Thursday, May 26, everyone is invited to go directly to the 11 AM Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
