Thelma Marie Hamsher, 88, long time resident of Fox Lake, IL formerly of Johnsburg, died September 10, 2012 in Barrington, IL. She was born on February 6, 1924 in Golden, CO to George and Christina (nee Tonyan) Lay.
She graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic School. She was united in marriage to Kenneth K. Hamsher on September 13, 1947 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg.
In 1953 they moved to Fox Lake and co-founded the Justen-Hamsher Funeral Home, which later became the K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, where she assisted her husband in the operation of the business. She was a long time member of St. Bede Catholic Church, the Mother's Club and a former member of Fox Lake Garden Club. She enjoyed boating, dancing, bird-watching, pool parties and watching the boats and the sunset on Pistakee Lake. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, who she loved above all things, and her pets, Digger I and Digger II.
Survivors include, her husband, Kenneth K. Hamsher of Fox Lake, with whom she would have celebrated 65 years; her children, Deborah (Dale) Glen, Sr. of Fox Lake; Sharon (Alan) Breunig of Spring Grove, IL; Kirk Hamsher of Grayslake, IL; her grandchildren, Dale A. Glen, Jr. of TX, Kevin (Katy) Glen of Wilmette; Kory (Lisa) Glen of Cary; Joe and Lou Amodeo of Chicago; Brandon (Maeghan) Breunig of KY; Brittany (Kyle) Pettengell of AZ; Logan and Hayden Hamsher of Johnsburg; her great-grandchildren, Gracie and Charlotte, Evan, Emily and Ben, Will and Hallie, Ava and Bella.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 4 until 8 p.m at the K.K. Hamsher Funeral, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, at 10 a.m. at St. Bede Catholic Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside. All are invited to go directly to the church by 9:45 am. Entombment will follow at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
Memorials in Thelma's name can be made to masses, St. Bede School or to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL 60010.
