Tarvin "Harry" Purdom of Fox Lake

Tarvin "Harry" W. Purdom, 85, was born on August 4, 1928 in Chicago to Tarvin A. and Emily (Wolter) Purdom.  He passed away peacefully on April 23, 2014 in the company of his loving family.

Harry's career was in the grocery business, first working at A&P and National Tea, and then owning an IGA store for over 10 years on the square in Huntley, Il where he was famous for his Italian Beef and friendly conversation.

In retirement, he and his dear wife, Elaine, liked to travel spontaneously, including trips on their houseboat on the great Mississippi, and road trips to Washington, DC and Route 66. In the mid 1990's they moved to Long Beach, CA, to assist Harry's mother and resided there for 10 years. In recent years, they returned to the area and enjoyed their home at Leisure Village in Fox Lake. IL.  At each residence Harry had beautiful gardens.

Mr. Purdom is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elaine, as well as his beloved children: Richard (Judy) Purdom, James (Kathy) Purdom, Tamara (Jim) Tolonen; and his wonderful grandchildren: Cherish (Brad) Bozeman, Jay Hennessy, Kirstin (Tim) Serdar, Tony Purdom, Dan Purdom, Rick Purdom, Ron Purdom, Melissa (Kevin) Freundt, and Rebecca (John) Medcalf; and extra-special great-grandchildren: Perry, Madison, Christian, Benjamin, Evelyn and Lincoln.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Calvary Presbyterian Church at 510 N Cedar Lake Road, Round Lake, Illinois 60073. Light luncheon immediately following the service.
