September 23, 1930 – August 7, 2010
Stu was born on Sept. 23, 1930 in Greenbush, Wisconsin to Eldon and Ruth (nee Laack) Hoehne. He attended Gavin Elementary and Grant Community High School where he was a Golden Glove Boxer.
Stu was a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1948-1951 and was honored and commended for his performance in extremely hazardous duty at Obersalzberg, Eagle's Nest Rd, located near Berchtesgaden, Bavaria.
After his service duty he worked with his grandfather, Ben Hoehne, and his father, Eldon Hoehne, at the Hoehne Sand & Gravel business. He later began his own business, the Stuart C. Hoehne Excavating, Inc., from 1964 - 1974.
During this time, he held a position on the Fox Lake Planning & Zoning Board for the Village of Fox Lake and eventually became a Village trustee, which he was later elected for a second term.
In 1974, Stu was hired by the Village of Fox Lake as Foreman of Public Works and became Superintendent in 1978 until his retirement in October, 1995. Stu proudly served under nine Village of Fox Lake Mayors.
Stu joined the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. in 1957. He rose through the ranks as Lieutenant, Captain, and Assistant Chief and became Chief in 1981 until his retirement in 2001 at which time, Fox Lake Mayor Nancy Koske appointed him as Chief Emeritus. Stu was the chairman of the first Fox Lake Volunteer Fireman's Festival Days.
During Stu's tenure as Fire Chief he was responsible for two major expansions of Fire Station #2 on Washington Avenue, the construction of Station #3 on Molidor Rd. and Station #4 on State Park Road. Station #4 was dedicated and named in his honor.
Stu was an active member of several organizations: the Republican Party and was elected a Precinct Committeeman in the 1960s, American Legion Post 703 Fox Lake for 58 years, a Charter Member of the VFW, Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, Illinois Fire Chiefs Association and the International Fire Chiefs Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eldon, Ruth, who was called home to the Lord when Stu was young and Marcella; by his wife, Marilyn; by his brother, David and his grandson, Donald Rogers.
Visitation for Mr. Hoehne will be on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, August 12, 2010 from 9 a.m until time of the service at 10:00 a.m, at the Grant Community High School Field House,

The service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Grant Community High School Field House and officiated by Father Tom Franzman.
