Shirley Ann Magenta

Shirley Ann Magenta, a life-time resident of Fox Lake, passed away peacefully October 30, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born on April 26, 1927 in Ingleside, to Raymond and Ivanetta (nee Hewitt) Walsh.

Shirley graduated from Grant High School in May of 1945 and attended St. Therese Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in March of 1949. After graduating nursing school, Shirley worked at the VA Hospital, and then went on to work with Dr. Fried in his private practice in Fox Lake. Shirley went on to be a school nurse in 1957 and worked for over 35 years at Fox Lake School. She loved her job and all her kids; she said they kept her young. She was united in marriage to Henry Magenta and celebrated 25 years until his death in 1978.

Shirley is survived by her children, Stephan (Lory) Magenta and Deborah (Michael) York; grandchildren, Stephan (Laura) Magenta, Victoria (Billy Archer) Voelkner, Bethany (Jeremy) Stull; great-grandchildren, Kevin, Emilee, Billy Jr., Sophia, August and Cash; her sister Pam (Richard) Lahey; sister-in-law Phyllis Walsh and by her dear childhood friend, Diane Anderson. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry Magenta, brother William Walsh and by her parents.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 3, from 4-8 PM at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Funeral Mass will be Tues. at 10:30 AM at St. Bede Catholic Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside. All are invited to go directly to church on Tuesday. Interment will be private.
