Ruth Elaine
(Nee Smith) Hermann
August 9, 1947 – May 6, 2025
Ruth Elaine Hermann, born August 9, 1947, passed away peacefully May 6, 2025, in Fox Lake, Illinois. She spent most of her life in Chili, a suburb of Rochester, New York, where she raised her family and built a lifetime of cherished memories.
Ruth spent most of her career as the Administrative Assistant for the College of Liberal Arts at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Ruth was passionate about skiing, golfing, camping, and swimming. She especially treasured spending winters in Florida and summers in the Chicagoland area with her friends and family. Her warmth, humor, and love of life left an impression on all who knew her. She was a spirited woman who loved cheering on her Buffalo Bills, often with a Southern Comfort muddled old-fashioned in hand.
Ruth is survived by her loving children, Tambra Sue Martin (David J. Carroll) and Thomas Carroll Hermann (Cathi A. Liberacki); and her loyal cat, Sissie. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Frederick Hermann; sister, Patricia Jones; brother, Robert Smith; and numerous nephews and nieces. In accordance with her wishes, no formal funeral will be held. Instead, her immediate family gathered to celebrate her life over Mother's Day weekend. At a private family burial, Ruth will join her late husband in Rochester.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations in Ruth's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association (ALZ.org). Your support helps fund vital research and care for those affected by Alzheimer's disease. Ruth's legacy lives on in the memories, stories, and laughter she shared with all of us. She will be deeply missed.
