Russell J. Smetana

Russell J. Smetana, recently of Winthrop Harbor, formerly of Fox Lake since 1968, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2014. He was born on December 15, 1933 in Chicago to John and Leona (nee Wozniak) Smetana.

Russell was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict as well as from 1955-1957 and again from 1960-1963. Russell was a loving and devoted father who was not only easy-going but also well-respected. He was known to have a green thumb and greatly enjoyed gardening. When he could, he would volunteer his time to help drive patients to and from the hospital in Morris, IL. On September 16, 1961 he was united in marriage to Anna (nee Luedtke) until her death in 2001.

Russell will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Cindy Smetana; his niece and nephews, David (Cindy) Krause, Debra (Don) Kevish and Jeff (Char) Krause. Many other dear great-nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna; his sister, Jacqueline (Dave) Krause; and by his parents.

Services and interment will be held at a later date.
