Rosemary
Worklan
November 10, 1930 – August 2, 2024
Rosemary Worklan (nee Quin) was born on November 10, 1930, in Elizabeth, NJ to L.P. "Bill" and Mary Quin. She left this earth as she lived her life, graciously and peacefully on August 2, 2024.
Rosemary, along with her family, moved to Waukegan, IL as a young child and spent the rest of her life in Lake County. She was a graduate of St. Anastasia Parochial School and Waukegan Township High School. After graduation she took a job at Cyclone Fence where she met her future husband, Lou. They married in 1948 and remained devoted for 72 years until his death in 2020. Together they raised 11 children.
Rosemary's primary focus was always her family and her faith. She was very active in Immaculate Conception Church and School. She, along with Lou, taught Chi-Rho and they were members of Christian Family Movement. She was very involved with Altar and Rosary Society, cooking for the annual Easter Fair and, her favorite, assisting at the annual parish rummage sale.
While she had her hands full when her children were young, Rosemary joined the workforce when her youngest went off to school. Her last, and by far most rewarding job, was the Church Secretary for St Bede Parish.
Rosemary was a proud member of the St Bede's Women's Club where she served a term as president. She actively participated in cookie sales, pie sales, running funeral lunches and overseeing the "French Room" at the parish rummage sale. One of her last social outings was to spend a few hours in the French Room, this year run by two of her daughters. She so enjoyed that outing on what, her family believed, was her farewell tour.
She was named Lake County Woman of the Year in 2002 by the Archdiocese of Chicago for her dedication to her church. She also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St Bede.
In 2019 Rosemary and Lou moved to what would be their final earthly home at The Village at Victory Lakes. Sadly, shortly after they moved into their apartment in Independent Living, COVID hit and they were, like most of us, isolated. Lou's health deteriorated and he left this earth a few months later. For the first time in her life, Rosemary was living on her own. She quickly made friends with the other residents and formed a friendship with three special women fondly referred to by her family as the Golden Girls. She volunteered at the Market Day events and soon became a fan of Bingo, even taking a turn at calling. She played her final Bingo game just two days before her passing and probably won.
These past few months, Rosemary has been lovingly cared for by a wonderful team of caregivers whom she grew to love as family.
She cherished her time with her friend, neighbor and fellow Golden Girl, Yolanda Obermaier.
Rosemary is survived by her sister, Ruth Garrity, her children, Cathy Rogers, Michael (Debbie) Worklan, Dave (Teresa) Worklan, Beth (Dave) Lodesky, Jim (Sandy) Worklan, Margaret (Ryan) Pendergast, Laurie Butler, John (Caron) Worklan, Paula (Gene) Laitinen, and Bob Worklan, 26 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lou, son,Frank, daughters, Patty and Jane, brother, Bob and parents Bill and Mary Quin.
