Robert
Ravenscraft
September 9, 1941 – August 5, 2025
On the morning of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his loved ones, Robert Ravenscraft was called home to Heaven. He would have turned 84 next month. Born September 9, 1941, Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He dedicated his life to his family and to God. At just 15 years old, he walked from Chicago to be near the love of his life, Marilyn. He worked at her sister's pizza place and even took a job at her family's boathouse—just to be close to her. Though she pretended not to notice him at first, Marilyn fell for the timid, kind-hearted young man. They were happily married for 59 years, and now, after a time apart, they are reunited in Heaven.
Robert's kindness knew no measure. He was the kind of man who would give anything to anyone in need. His warmth and quiet strength made him a steady, loving presence in the lives of everyone who knew him. He was a father figure to many, a best friend to all, and a hero in the eyes of his youngest daughter, Jessica Mary, who was born with Down syndrome. Robert was her Prince Charming, her protector, and her daddy—a bond unbreakable in this life and the next.
He had a deep love for fishing, often creating treasured memories at the water's edge with friends and family. He also loved gardening, building model cars and planes, bowling, drawing, and singing. For many years, he performed in a Grease tribute band, bringing joy to audiences with his voice and charm. Music was a big part of his life, especially during the ten years he sang in the choir at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Antioch. His voice, rooted in faith, was a gift he shared joyfully and often.
Robert worked for 45 years at Pickard China in Antioch, Illinois, before retiring and moving to Shawano, Wisconsin, where he and Marilyn ran the Shore West Motel—a peaceful fishing resort—together with their family. It was there he lived out his dream of a quiet life by the water, surrounded by loved ones.
Robert and Marilyn also shared a special lifelong friendship with their neighbors and best friends, Chuck and Cheryl. They raised their families side-by-side in Fox Lake IL. Robert and Chuck frequently visited train museums, shared stories upon stories in the garage while listening to old tunes. Their bond was more like family than friendship. Their memories together spanned decades, filled with laughter, stories, and unwavering support.
Robert was also known as the family cameraman, always behind the lens capturing birthdays, holidays, fishing trips, and quiet everyday moments. Thanks to him, the family has decades of memories recorded on DVDs—a priceless gift from a man who never wanted to forget a moment with those he loved.
He had a unique sense of humor, often turning difficult moments into laughter. Serious and silly all at once, his thoughtful heart and generous spirit were unmatched. He lived a life that proved you don't need a perfect beginning to become someone extraordinary.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert Theodore (Jennifer), Lisa Marie (Robbie), and Jessica Mary. In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Ken (Sara), Haley (Jared), Christina (Chris), Kyle, Abby (Peter Jr.), Ella and Rylee; great-grandchildren, Luka, Violet, Naomi, Asher, Peter III, and Nora. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Ravenscraft, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Robert also leaves behind two beloved dogs, Bingo and Gigi. Bingo, his loyal companion, adored him deeply—though they only had a short time together, their bond was undeniable. Gigi, originally Marilyn's dog, remained faithfully by Robert's side after her passing and will miss him dearly. Their presence was a comfort in his final years, and they will continue to be a cherished part of his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilyn, his parents, and siblings Mary, Vernon, Tommy, Ritchie, Billy, and Joe.
Visitation Saturday, August 9, from 11 a.m. until the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Robert will be privately interred, next to Marilyn, at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Fremont Center, at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robert's name to the American Cancer Society , appreciated.
