Robert R. Barger, 81, of Pleasant Prairie, WI—formerly of Bristol, WI and Fox Lake, IL—passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017, at his home.

He was born November 15, 1935, in Chicago, to the late Maurice and Margaret Barger, and went on to serve in the Army, as a Specialist Third Class, in a Special Weapons Project at Sandia Base in New Mexico.

After his military service, Robert graduated from Illinois State University, was voted Teacher of the Year at Richards Vocational High School in Chicago, and was an actor in Chicago and New York City, where he had worked with Tennessee Williams.  He retired as a Case Manager for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, where he had counseled adults and teens suffering from addictions to alcohol and narcotics in the Antioch and Round Lake areas.  Robert volunteered for Park Lawn and Harmony House for Cats.

Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Therese Barger of Tinley Park, William (Amy) Barger of Naperville, and Anne (Patty McElroy) Barger of Champaign; and grandnephews and grandniece, Chris, Maddie, and Will.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Maury (the late Gerry) Barger.

The memorial visitation will be Saturday, February 11, from 11 a.m. until the celebration of Robert's life at 1 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.  Private inurnment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip.
