JOHNSBURG - Rita Miller, nee Fruend, 91, a lifelong resident of Johnsburg, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock.
She was born April 19, 1919, in Johnsburg, to Peter and Emma (nee Freund).
She and her late husband LeRoy "Bud" Miller ran a resort for many years on their property on the Fox River and also farmed their property. She married her late husband, LeRoy June 19, 1940 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg where she was a member of the Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters.
She played in numerous card clubs, and was locally famous for her fantastic baking including her chocolate cake and Christmas cookies.
She will be deeply missed by her children: Georgette Miller of Union Grove, Nancy (George) Yeaton of McHenry, John P. Miller of Johnsburg; her brothers, Lloyd (Doris) Freund of Johnsburg and Howard (Betty) Freund of Arizona; her grandchildren, Debbie (Vince) Vachio of Algonquin, Greg (Melissa) Sobiesk of Johnsburg, Doug (Kathleen) Sobiesk of Spring Grove, Heather (Jason) Folbrick of Spring Grove and Erin (Dr. Jason) Napolitano of California; her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Morgan Vachio of Algonquin, Max and Olivia Folbrick of Spring Grove and McKenzie and Mason Sobiesk of Johnsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy "Bud" Miller on March 30, 2006; her sister, Lorraine Rutzen; and her brother, Alvin Freund.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake (in the Chapel on the Lake). A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to JEPF (Johnsburg Educational Partnership Foundation), Attn: Bud Miller Scholarship.
