Raymond Thelen's Obituary

Raymond Thelen Sr., a lifetime resident of Johnsburg, passed away on January 19, 2013 in his home after years of dedicated and loving care by his loyal and devoted wife. He was born on December 22, 1930 in McHenry to John and Agatha (nee Schmidt) Thelen.


Raymond was a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He was also in a business partnership with his brother, Vern, as owners and operators of Thelen Sand & Gravel. He was active in many business associations, along with the community and his parish. He loved his family and he enjoyed water and snow skiing, unicycling, and piloting small planes. He took great pleasure in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they loved him and will miss him dearly.


Raymond will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Rosemary, with whom he was united in marriage on June 23, 1951; his dear children, Ray (Michelle) Thelen Jr of AZ; Christine (John) Nobilio of Johnsburg; Patti Thelen and friend Mary Nowakowski of Twin Lakes, WI; by his grandchildren, Kelly (Darran), Sara (John), Josh (Courtney), Jake (Heidi), Brittany, Kate, Kelsey, Ray III, Troy (Kim), Chase (Tori), Jenna, Christian and Tanner; his great- grandchildren, Skylar, Jayden, Lexi, Xander, Jeremy, Jack, Mabel and Emma; his sisters, Luella (the late Jim) Hunter of McHenry and Lucina (John) Skinner of CA; his sisters-in-law, Bunny Thelen, Vi Weyrauch of Crystal Lake; Ann (Hank) Stawarski of Bellwood and brother-in-law, Al (June) Ripani of AZ.
Many other loving relatives and friends also survive.


He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rosemarie Rose; his parents, his brother, Vern; his nephews, Joey, Harold and Jack;his brother- in-law, Don Weyrauch and in-laws Umberto and Rose Ripani.


Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 23 , from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd. Fox Lake. Funeral mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg. All are invited to meet directly at the church.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
