Obituary

Peter “Pete” G. Jakstas, Jr., 62, a lifelong resident of Fox Lake, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Northwestern Hospital, McHenry. He was born August 25, 1964, in LaGrange, IL, to Peter F. and the late Arlene (nee Ansani) Jakstas.

Pete was a graduate of St. Bede Grade School, a 1982 graduate of Grant Community High School, and attended College of Lake County. He grew up on the Chain of Lakes, loved boating, his Harley Davidson motorcycle, being outdoors, live music and concerts, and playing pool. Most of all, he enjoyed a very social life and spending time with family and friends.

Pete was vice president of Mineola Marine Inc., where he worked from age 12 until his passing. Among the many certifications he received, Pete was most proud of receiving a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer license. He also towed boats for the Fox Waterway Agency on the Chain of Lakes. Pete was an integral part for 25 years with helping coordinate, fundraise, and build the barges the fireworks were displayed from in Mineola Bay.

Survivors include his dad, Peter F. Jakstas Sr.; sisters, Laura (Matt) Soucy and Erica Jakstas; girlfriend, Beth Wadzinski; many cousins, extended family members; and many, many friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his mom, Arlene on March 24, 2022; sister, Karen “K” Jakstas on October 2, 2011; and grandparents, Peter and Emily Jakstas and Robert and Grace Ansani.

Visitation Thursday, October 15, from 3-8 p.m., at RINGA FUNERAL HOME, 122 S. MILWAUKEE AVE. (Route 83), Lake Villa—very casual attire is encouraged. Visitation will continue at the funeral home Friday, October 16, from 10 a.m. until the beginning of the funeral service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow.
