Mike graduated from Lake Park High School in 1983. He attended Worsham College, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Mortuary Science; then later attended Colorado Technical University and received a Bachelor Degree. Mike worked many years in production and nearly a decade with Knight Engineering (aka Knight Plastics, Inc.). He worked his way to Supervisor over his department. Mike decided to pursue his longtime interest of becoming a Funeral Director/Mortician and attended school to accomplish this goal. He graduated, with honors, and passed the state board exam to become a Funeral Director/Mortician. He loved serving people and always strived to make a difference in the lives of those he encountered. Mike was a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, Colorado Funeral Directors Association; earned a Life Insurance Producers License; and achieved many other accolades.
Some of Mike's favorite pastimes were cooking, spending time with family, attending comedy shows, and taking an occasional Caribbean cruise. He especially enjoyed jamming to music as he loved playing his drums. He was part of a band, named Ryken, formed with close friends in his earlier years. He was a "lifelong learner", always taking courses for Continuing Education and sought ways to better himself. Mike was dedicated to his family and his profession, never slowing down until recently when he became ill. His declining health forced him to slow down. In his final days, just five days before passing, he was able to see one of his favorite comedians, Mr. Jim Breuer. It was a heart-warming experience and one of his last wishes.
Mike is survived by his wife, Tamra; son, Harley; step-sons, Gregory and Steven (Gabrielle) Turner; grand-daughter, Sanina; cousins; and many other colleagues and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Linda; his uncle, Claude; his sister, who died shortly after birth; and his brother, Tim.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Liver Foundation.
