Mary Ellen Freund (nee Ziegler), born October 20, 1932, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2016, from complications from recent heart surgery. She was surrounded by family.  Mary is preceded in death by Benno (husband of 48 years) and Denise (daughter). She is survived by Kathy (Don) Pierce, Kim (Larry) Laycock, Julie (Steve) Serres, Kevin (Darby) Freund, Jamie Freund, and Bill (Michelle) Golden. Her grandchildren include Jay, Ben, Becca, Dillon, Grace, Reese, Alex, Branden, Peri, Riley, Abby and Raelynn.

Mary had a love of animals including her beloved Shelia. She touched the hearts of many people. She was one of the founding members of the "Material Girls", her sewing group. As part of her church swimming group, she was one of the "Noodle Ladies". She would say they exercised their mouths more than anything else. Mary was an active member of the St. Bede Woman's Club, as well as a volunteer for the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Mary's kindness extended to Tri-County Pregnancy & Parenting Services. With the fabric donations, she would sew blankets to donate to the group on behalf of the Woman's Club. Many of her sewing projects were a "labor of love".

In addition to the volunteer work she did, Mary loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. You would always find her at the dance recital or music events both for her children and grandchildren. If you didn't find her at one of the family sporting events, she would be watching the Chicago teams on TV. Mary has weaved a little bit of herself into many of our hearts.

Visitation will be Friday, April 29, from 4-8:00 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.  There will also be visitation Saturday, April 30, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of prayers at 11:15 a.m., at the funeral home, processing to St. Bede Catholic Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside, for a 12:00 p.m., Mass of Christian Burial.  Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fremont Center, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's name may be made to St. Bede School, 36399 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside, IL 60041.
