Maria "Muci" Szekeres

A Fox Lake area resident and businesswoman, for over 45 years

Maria Szekeres passed away peacefully Friday, June 27, 2014, in Lake Zurich.

She was born May 8, 1937, in Budapest, Hungary, to Janos and Elizabeth (nee Foveny) Berger.

She and her husband John were the owners of the Sailor Hotel on Eagle Point Road in Fox Lake. She cooked at the Stop Inn in Spring Grove for short time. Maria and John managed the Lakeside Inn before purchasing the Log Cabin Lounge on Route 12 also in Fox Lake. She was most known in the area for her home cooked specials and excellent soups. Her family, business, cooking, and taking care of her customers was her enjoyment in life. Maria was recognized for her donation of embroidered centennial flags to the Fox Lake Fire Dept.

Marie is survived by her dear son, John (Susan) Szekeres of Johnsburg;  her cherished grandchildren, Brandon (Michelle) Szekeres, Suzanne (Adam) Shaw, Mikaila and Nicholas, all of Johnsburg; her adoring great grandchildren, June and Mason; many other dear relatives and friends also survive.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents, and by her brothers, Peter and John.
