Madeline L. Johnston, a 54 year resident of Johnsburg, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2012. She was born on May 14, 1925 in Chicago to Arthur Otto and Mabel (nee Nufer) Berner.

She enjoyed winters in Florida and Arizona, loved to attend her grandchildren's sporting events and bowled every Thursday night for 50 years with the Miller Lite Girls. She was also an active longtime volunteer of St. John's church and school. Madeline took pride in maintaining her home and yard.

Madeline will be deeply missed by her loving husband of 61 years, Ralph Johnston, with whom she was united in marriage at St. Nicholas Church in Chicago on May 26, 1951; her children John (Susan) Johnston of Naperville and Mary Lou (Gerald) Assell of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren Jill (Chris Martelli) Johnston, Danny (Jenny) Johnston, Jacob (Monica) Chalupa and Zachary (Ashley Colyer) Chalupa; her great-granddaughter Gracie Chalupa; and by her sister Eileen Mathis. Many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roland, Norbert, Lawrence "Red" and Art Berner; her sisters, Edith Ambrose, Marion "Mickey" Harms and Jeanette Demovic.

Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 21, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the
K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd. Fox Lake.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 Church St., Johnsburg. All are invited to go directly to the church. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery.
