LAURABELLE MENZEL CHURCH
Laurabelle Menzel Church died peacefully on Thursday, September 2, at Victory Lakes Continuing Care in Lindenhurst.
She was born in Bull Valley, McHenry County at the farm of her parents, Richard and Isabelle Menzel.
Laurabelle was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, where she was baptized, confirmed and on May 3, 1936, she married Delmar Church at the same church. She and Delmar were married for over 62 years, and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1998.
A housewife and mother all of her life, she would tell you she would do it all over again. She enjoyed visits with her siblings and Del's siblings and their families. Especially, she enjoyed visits with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. No one ever left her home hungry. In her lifetime, she baked hundreds of pies as well as other pastries. Her greeting card mailings were legendary, and in recent years when she could no longer do it herself, she made sure someone did the mailings for her. She enjoyed country music, especially Vince Gill, and in 2002, she made a trip to Nashville to see him in person at the Grand Ole Opry.
In 1960, Laurabelle and her family moved to the Antioch area, and they soon became members of the Lutheran Church of All Saints, where she was a charter member. She was presented with the Golden Apple Award in 2002, in gratitude for her service to the church.
Laurabelle is survived by her children William (Carolyn) of Mundelein, Kenneth (Joan) of Antioch, Joyce (Nelson) Reese of Lake Villa, Janice (Robert) Kubicki of Gurnee, Delmar, Jr. (Leslie) of Antioch, Keith (Renee) of Antioch and Mleea (David) Meyer of Lindenhurst. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, Denise Jones, Scott (Joy) Church, Shelly Hayden, Jeffery Church, Kimberly (Michael) Baldwin, Tracy (James) Christiansen, Robert (Andreia) Kubicki, Holli Kubicki, David Church, Christopher Church, Daniel Church, Ryan Church, Rebecca (Matt) Tillery and Melissa Meyer; 9 great-grandchildren also survive her.
In addition to her husband, Delmar, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shirley, and 11 brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Laurabelle's life will be held from 9:30 AM until time of her funeral service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Lutheran Church of All Saints, 5800 State Park Road, Fox Lake, with Pastor Nathan Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Richmond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in her name to the Lutheran Church of All Saints.
Arrangements were completed with the K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake, IL 60020. For information call 847-587-2100. www.KKHamsherFuneralHome.com
