John Joseph McGarry, 67, a longtime resident of Fox Lake, passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.  He was born March 18, 1954, at Great Lakes Naval Base, North Chicago.

John grew up in Fox Lake Hills and attended Gavin Grade and Grant Community High Schools.  He was a big-hearted person who enjoyed helping anyone in need.

Survivors include his daughter, Ginger (Dan) VanDaalwyk of Stevens Point, WI; sisters, Jackie (the late Ray) Swenson of Las Vegas, NV and Diane (Mark) Wolsek of St. Petersburg, FL; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Helen (nee Johnston) McGarry; and siblings, Larry, Judy, Louis "Dennis" and James "Jimbo" McGarry.

Visitation Thursday, September 2, from 4 p.m. until the 7:30 p.m. funeral service at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Per the August 30, 2021, State of Illinois Mask Mandate, all people must wear a face mask while inside the funeral home.

Private inurnment will be in the Ascension Cemetery Columbarium, Libertyville.
