John K. Longley's Obituary

John K. Longley, Sr., 93, a resident of McHenry since 1957, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was born in Little Falls, Minnesota to Lawrence D. and Helga (nee Wilburg) Longley.


John was a 12 year veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force with service in WWII and Korean War. He attended Lake Forest College where he received his degree in business. He worked for Motorola and was a member of Galvin Masters where he retired after 27 years of service. John loved cars, woodworking, going camping, listening to music and reading-especially U.S. History and about the Civil War.


John will be deeply missed by her his loving wife, Verda (nee Finney) with whom he was united in marriage in 1942; his children, Carol (Chuck) Walsh of McHenry and John (Diana) Longley, Jr. of Round Lake; his 4 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; his 3 brothers and 4 sisters, and by his Goddaughter, Nancy McCoy. Many loving nieces and nephews also survive.


He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Tom and Don Longley and his sister, Jeanne Soderlund.
Services and interment will be private.
