February 5, 1944 – June 29, 2015
Joahn "Jonnie" Vickery (nee Lohrke), 71, of Spring Grove, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015, at Centegra Hospital, McHenry.
She was born February 5, 1944, in Washington, DC, to the late Ralph and Ardyth (nee Preice) Lohrke. Joahn married the late David A. Vickery on August 14, 1965, at Santa Maria Popolo Catholic Church in Mundelein.
Joahn was a very active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg, where she had been the church secretary, head of the Bereavement Ministry, a volunteer for the Homebound Ministry, and a Eucharistic Minister. She was a Woman of Inspiration for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, through the McHenry County Deanery.
Joahn enjoyed holidays with her family and making large meals. Her all-time favorite movie was the Wizard of Oz and she enjoyed Irish music. She was a 16-year, ovarian cancer survivor. Joahn will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.
Survivors include her children, Jon Vickery of Johnsburg, Jennifer (Peter) Walker of Johnsburg, and Jason Vickery of Spring Grove; grandsons, Damian, Stephen, Devin, and Nicholas all of Johnsburg; brothers, David, Ralph, and Scott Lohrke; sisters-in-law, Arlene (Donald) Haun of Antioch and Darlene Meyer of Spring Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joahn was preceded in death by grandson, Triston; father- and mother-in-law, Ralph and Viola Vickery; and brother-in-law, Gerald Meyer.
The visitation will be Thursday, July 2, from 4-9 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.
On Friday, July 3, all are invited to go directly to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg, IL 60051, for the 10 a.m. Mass of the Resurrection. Father Jacek Junak will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be private in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
