James D. Paulsen, 81, of Ringwood, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Northwestern McHenry Hospital.  He was born November 18, 1943, in Chicago, to the late Gordon and Lydia (nee Hageli) Paulsen.

In his youth, James enjoyed the outdoors and exploring with his brothers.  He was a car and heavy equipment enthusiast, who was also very mechanical.  From 1971-2015, he was the owner/partner of Paulsen Paving in Woodstock.  Above all, he was a man who cherished his faith and family.

James loved being a husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa; he is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen (nee Chapman); children, Daniel (Michelle) Paulsen and Kelly (David) Johnson; grandchildren, Lauren (Joshua) Olson, Lindsay Paulsen, Leah Paulsen, Andrew Johnson, and Rachel Johnson; great-grandson, Bennett Olson; and sister, Barbara Luttenbacher.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by brothers, Gordon, Ralph (Barbara), Brian (Carol), and Glenn (Jodi) Paulsen; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Catherine and Robert Chapman

Visitation Saturday, January 11, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m., at CrossPoint Church, 27430 W. Nippersink Rd., Ingleside.  Private burial will be in Ringwood Cemetery, Ringwood.
