James "Jim" Schroth, 66, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Condell Hospital in Libertyville. He was born November 9, 1958.
Jim grew up in Fox Lake and was a 1976 graduate of Grant Community High School. He began his career at the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for the Fox Lake Post Office. He went on to work at several Post Offices throughout Lake County. After 44 years with the United States Postal Service, he retired as the Postmaster of Highland Park.
Jim loved the Chicago Cubs and listening to their games on the radio. He had an eclectic taste in music and enjoyed listening to his record collection. Jim also enjoyed going to live music events, dining out for a good steak dinner, family outings, and frequently going to the movie theater. Jim took pleasure in coaching sports and camping with his sons. Jim was an active member in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troops of Grayslake. Jim was known to be an avid pool player who participated in several leagues throughout the years.
Jim was a loving, supportive, and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Bari Sue (nee Karabush); sons, Brandon (Madison) Schroth and Justin Schroth; grandchildren, Hadley Schroth and Parker Schroth; sister, Maureen Suddeth; brother-in-law, Jay (Nicki) Karabush; nieces, Leslie (Don) Lauritzen, Lauren Karabush, and Ryann Karabush; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and by his faithful, four-legged companion, Foxy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jackie and Mary (nee McManon) Schroth; brother, Jack Schroth; nephews, Chris Suddeth and Scott Suddeth; mother-in-law, Shayne (Max Topp) Karabush; and by his faithful, four-legged companion, Bingo.
Memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 2-6 p.m., with time for friends and family to share memories of Jim at 5 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. All are welcome, please join. A private Shiva will be held for immediate family members.
