James "Jim" Garrity

James "Jim" Garrity, 71, of Johnsburg, peacefully passed away at home Wednesday, April 5, 2023.  He was born September 6, 1951, in Chicago, and grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood where he attended St. Ignatius Grammar School and local high schools.

Jim went on to honorably serve his country in the Army.  After obtaining training in computers, he had a successful career at A.S. Hansen, ADP, Mercer/Marsh McLennan and at the time of his retirement, Northern Trust.  In his free time, Jim enjoyed golfing and watching Chicago sports teams—especially the Bears and Cubs.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Pamela "Pam" (nee Calkins); siblings: John and Joan; sisters-in-law: Marcia (Eugene) Burchi, the late Anita (Terry) Heydecker, Gloria (the late Roger) Kanneberg, and Donna (Craig) Lowe; nephews: Ted (Rebecca) Burchi and his children Riley and Kiara, Peter Heydecker and Benjamin (Kara) Heydecker and their daughter, Olivia. Jim is also survived by his beloved cat, Margaret (aka: "Ralphie" or "The Little Guy").

Jim was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary Margaret Garrity; dear sister-in-law, Anita Heydecker; and his cherished cats, Fritz and Shakey.

Memorial visitation Saturday, April 29, from 12 noon until the time of memorial/celebration of life service at 2 p.m., at  Hamsher Lakeside Funerals & Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are appreciated.
