Howard E. Scott's Obituary

Howard "Bud" Scott life long resident of Fox Lake and well known figure in the community died early Friday morning at the age of 75.

Scott was a trustee and former president of the Lake Villa Fire Protection District Board and helped preside over the construction and 2008 opening of its new substation in Lindenhurst.

'Bud' as he was known to all was also a former Lake County Board member and a former member and chairman of the Fox Waterway Agency Board. He was a not only a student but also a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent at Grant High School in Fox Lake.

Bud will be remembered not only for all the causes he supported, but mostly by the countless people he positively influenced. His career at Grant High School spanned 22 years and thousands of students, faculty and parents. He was more than just the Dean of Students, he was a friend who people respected and relied on for guidance.

Scott was also highly visible in the local political circuit. He served as Lake Villa Republican precinct committeeman since the 1960's-often times running unopposed. This is where he met and made many of his political relationships. He served on the Lake County Board, was a two-term director of the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce, a Lake Villa Township trustee and was a member of the Lake County Planning Commission.

One of the titles most near and dear to Bud was the fact that he was a Marine Corps veteran. He was extremely proud to have served and continued to support the military through his work at the American Legion Post 703. Bud was Fox Lake police officer and Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy for a time.

Bud's love for Fox Lake as a community and the Chain of Lakes area was unprecedented. Everyone new Bud and he knew everyone. There wasn't a place anywhere on the Chain that he didn't have personal knowledge about and a corresponding story to share.

The community has lost one of its biggest advocates, historians and friend.

Bud is survived by his wife of 52 years, Roberta Lou Scott; his 3 children, Tom Scott, Kathy Scott, and Kristina (Michael) Kazlausky;
3 grandchildren Sammy and Mick Kazlausky, Garrett Woolford; his Mother Cornelia Scott; his brother Dr. Anthony (Judi) Scott; his sister Meredith (John) Martin; sister's-in-law, Sue (Roger) Tapleshay and Barb (Gary) Humphries; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Howard E. Scott Sr.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 17th from 3 pm, until the service begins at 6 Grant Community High School's Field House, 110 Devlin Road, Fox Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Bud Scott to Grant High School Partnership Fund c/o Sharon Burr, and/or Fox Lake Historical Society
