Hazel Dayer Fish's Obituary

Hazel Dayer Fish, a longtime resident of McHenry, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2012. She was born on May 18, 1923 in Irvington, New Jersey to Howard and Edith (nee Bush) Dayer.


She received her Bachelor's Degree from Wilson College, and her Master's Degree from Goddard College. She was an English Literature teacher at Grant High School from 1966 until 1993 as well as Chair of the English Department for many years. She was an avid reader and musician and enjoyed visiting England. She was involved in the Church of Holy Family for many years and an associate of the Order of the Holy Cross. She loved her grandchildren and her dogs. In her younger years she was very athletic and was in the Girl Scouts.


She will be deeply missed by her children Vincent (Ruth) Fish, Catherine (Robert) Scott and her step-son Peter Duncan (Viola) Fish; her grandchildren Jonathan (Alexandra) Fish and David Fish, Nicholas (Sarah) Scott, Christina and Thomas Scott. Many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends also survive.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Fr. Vincent Fish, her step-son Lawrence Dean Fish, her siblings Howard Arthur Dayer II, Doris and Lois, and by her parents.


Memorial visitation will be at 12 Noon until the memorial service at 1 PM on Thursday, March 8, at St. Mary Episcopal Church, 210 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Interment will be private.
