Gregory M. Stowell, 60, died at home on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Born October 19, 1965, in Elmhurst, he was the son of the late Gary and Dorothy (nee Evetts) Stowell.

Music was the thread that ran through Greg’s life. From his days in the jazz band and marching band to his many years as an active member of Fox Lake Community Church, he found joy in both creating and playing it. By profession, he was a Global Systems Architect Lead for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., but those who knew him best will remember a man whose heart belonged to music, and to the outdoors. He was never happier than when hiking and exploring nature, with his beloved dog, Jazzy, at his side. Jazzy remained there until the very end.

Greg is survived by his wife, Julie, whom he married September 11, 1987; his children, Renae (Ben) Ciraulo and Michael (Tiffany Piefer) Stowell; his siblings, Jamie (Jahan) Afshari and Jeff Stowell; and his nephew and niece, Nienna and Stephen Afshari.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 25, at Fox Lake Community Church, 25 W. Big Hollow Rd., Fox Lake, IL 60020. Burial was private at East Fox Lake Cemetery, Lake Villa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Greg’s name may be made to Fox Lake Community Church or Ligonier Ministries.
