Greg Murrey, 61, a lifelong resident of Fox Lake, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Condell Medical Center, Libertyville.  He was born February 21, 1956, in Waukegan.

Greg was a senior trustee for the Village of Fox Lake and a longtime member of the Fox Lake Volunteer Fire Department, achieving the rank of Chief Engineer and honorably retired.  He was head mechanic "Doctor of Motors" for the Grant Township Highway Department for 39 and a half years, past board member of the Grant Township Republican Party, a member of the National Association of Railcar Operators Association (NARCOA), the NRA and Sons of the American Legion Post 703.  He played Santa Claus for the Fox Lake Chamber of Commerce of Industry for many years, was a 1975 graduate of Grant Community High School and a co-owner of Price Services with his late brother, Dave.  Greg was an avid fan and season-ticket holder of the Chicago Bears.

Survivors include his soul mate, Mary Ellen Johnson; son, Jimmy Soutar; siblings, Kathleen (John) Pletz and Patrick (Ginny) Murrey; nieces and nephews, Jonathon Pletz, Alexandra (Dennis) Sommers, Matthew Pletz, Angela Pletz, Zac Pletz and Kelly (Mike) Haidacher; Papa's favorite, Jackson Haidacher; and many great nieces and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas D. and Loretta (nee Buikema) Murrey; and brothers, David and Thomas R. Murrey.

The visitation will be Saturday, November 18, from 2-8 p.m., at Hamsher Lakeside Funerals and Cremations, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, November 19, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Grant Cemetery, Fox Lake.
