Gertrude Knick, a 40 year resident of McHenry, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2013. She was born on January 29, 1919 in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Bernice (nee Splawski) Szymczak.

She loved to travel and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Senior Citizens group of Johnsburg, and the VFW (Niles) 7712.

Gertrude will be deeply missed by her dear children, Patricia Swierad and Donald (Nancy) Zywicki; her grandchildren, Jeffery (Heather) Swierad, Brian (Angela) Zywicki, and Amy Zywicki; and her great grandchildren, Dominick, Carter, Paige, and Andrew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond Knick, and her siblings, Catherine Ecklund, Helen Borgias, Maryann O'Boyle, Sophie Edwards, Benjamin Szymczak, and Mathew Szymczak.

Visitation Thursday, September 26, from 4 until 8 p.m. and resume on Friday, from 8:30 until time of prayers at 9 a.m. at the K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake. Funeral Mass will be Friday 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Johnsburg. Interment at St. John's Cemetery.
