Gertrude "Jean" Genevieve Kildahl nee Baran age 95
Of McHenry and former longtime resident of Long Lake passed away Friday, May 21 at Centegra McHenry Hospital.
Gertrude was born Nov. 21, 1914 in Chicago to Stanislaus and Regina (nee Skop).
Gertrude graduated at age 14 and found her first job at Williamson Candy Co. who made the famous "O'Henry" candybar and went on to become a beautician.
She married Howard Kildahl on Jan. 27, 1934 and moved to Long Lake in 1948. She worked at Towne & Country Clothing Store in Fox Lake, & Jones Dress Shop in Round Lake until its closing.
She was active in the Long Lake Ladies Club and later became very active with McHenry Senior Citizens RSVP (Sr. Volunteers), helping with the Salvation Army lunches for many years. She was very musical and sang with the Senior Minstrels. She started writing poetry in 1935 until 1995 and had two poems published in the Library of Congress. She also enjoyed drawing, crafts and bingo. She will be dearly missed by her children:
Dolores (the late Otto) Hertel of McHenry;
Gertrude "Trudy" (Warren) Stippich Sr., of North Aurora; and Howard (Sharon) Kildahl Jr of Arkansas;
Grandchildren: Steven (Diane) Hertel; Douglas (Linda) Hertel; Bradley (Jane) Hertel and Glenn Hertel; Warren Jr. (Dawn) Stippich; Michelle (Jim) Kauth, Paul (Beth) Stippich and Christopher (Kim) Kildahl;
Great-Grandchildren:
Warren III, Samantha, Andrew, Kirsten, Gregory, Matthew, Emily, Nicholas, Erik, Jessica, Danielle, Ava, Ellie and Lucy.

Visitations will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on Monday, May 24, 2010 at K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, Ltd., 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd, Fox Lake. Funeral Service at 1:30 P.M. Burial: E. Fox Lake Cemetery, Lake Villa. In lieu of flowers memorials for Alzheimers Assn.
