Fred "Bud" L. Schaer, Jr., longtime resident of Fox Lake and Ingleside, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2014. He was born on February 17, 1935 in Chicago to Fred L. Sr. and Gladys (nee Ballard) Schaer.

Bud attended Fox Lake Grade School and graduated from Grant High School. After graduating he served in the U.S. Army in Military Police and later served as an Illinois State Trooper. Bud loved science, was an engineer and an entrepreneur, who also owned and operated Schaer's Electronics for over 25 years. Bud was a diehard Bears fan and loved sports; he was also a sponsor and coach for Schaer's TV Service Girls Little League Softball team. Above all, he was a loving husband and father and enjoyed helping others.

Bud will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (nee Klauer) Schaer; his children, Dean and Connie Schaer; his 3 grandchildren and his brother, Dennis (Kathy) Schaer. Many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his brother John Schaer and by his parents.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 2 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral service at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake. Private interment at Grant Cemetery will be at a later date.
