Francis "Frank" Schmitt, age 90, formerly of Johnsburg, IL, died September 12, 2012 at Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis TN. He was born May 20, 1922 in Oak Park IL to Anton and Katherine (Lay) Schmitt. Frank graduated from McHenry High School in 1940 and on January 15, 1944 he married Laura Denman, his high school sweetheart. Frank lived on the farm adjacent to Chapel Hill Golf Course in Johnsburg until moving to Fox Lake in 2003.

Frank and Laura spent the winters in Sebring, FL for the past 18 years. During his years as a dairy farmer, Frank served as a volunteer firefighter and was honored last year for his service. Over the years he donated his time and talents serving on the Winner's Circle committee for St John's Church and as an usher for many years. In addition he was a lifelong member and served as an officer in the local court 96 of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Johnsburg Community Club. He also served on the McHenry State Bank board of directors and on the Jury Commission for McHenry County. Frank was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the course- rain or shine.

He always felt there was time for one more hole before any storm would get too bad to continue. Passionate about the game until the bitter end, he was sure he could out putt his family, friends and foes. Frank is survived by his three sons Robert (Suzanne Gerasch), Duane and Edward (Therese Ondrusek); three grandsons Carl (Maggie), Keith (Emma) and Mark; one great-granddaughter Isabel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Kathleen, and a daugher in law Karin Charvat Schmitt. Visitation will be held at the Hamsher Funeral Home in Fox Lake on Sunday September 16th from 3:30 to 8:00 pm with a funeral mass on Monday at 10:00 am at St. John the Baptist Church in Johnsburg.
