Francis A. "Frank" Meier, 80, long time resident, business owner and former mayor of Fox Lake, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington, IL.
He was born in Clifton, Illinois on April 25, 1930 to Harry and Marguerite (nee Walsh) Meier.
On June 16, 1951, he was united in marriage to Vivian (nee Rosendahl) at Assumption Catholic Church in Ashkum, Illinois. The couple later moved to Fox Lake, where they raised their family. Frank began his police career with the Fox Lake Police Department, advanced to become an Illinois State Trooper, then a Lake County Sheriff's Deputy and returned to Fox Lake to serve as Chief of Police. In 1962, he started a fencing company called Meier's Masterbilt on Grand and Rollins in Fox Lake, and expanded his company to Meier's Outdoor World, Inc. on Sayton Road, where other family members joined the business. He later served as village trustee, was elected as mayor of Fox Lake, and served as president of the Republican Club.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian, his children Michael (Debbie) Meier, Stephen (Linda) Meier, Kerry (Leslie) Meier, Kim (Sally) Meier, Lorelei (Kevin) Kelly, Cynthia Erickson, Renee (William) Vojak and Mark D. Meier, his 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many other relatives including his dear nieces Vicki Kavouras and Jaline Reese and his sister-in-law Norma Meier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Vernon Meier and sister Geraldine McKay and his grandson, Michael C. Meier.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 2 PM until 6 PM at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road, Fox Lake, IL
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 8 at 10 AM at St. Bede Catholic Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside, IL .
Entombment at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville.
