Dirk A. Drehobl, age 72, of the Ingleside and Fox Lake area, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, September 18th, 2026.

Dirk was born on January 14, 1954, and graduated from Grant Community High School in 1972. Throughout his life, Dirk was known as a friend to all and a person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether you needed something fixed, a hand with a project, or simply someone to count on, Dirk was right there.

Dirk worked as a truck driver for 40+ years of his life and was a true handyman at heart. He could often be found tinkering in the garage, fixing something for himself or helping someone else with a project. His generosity, kindness, and willingness to help others touched the lives of many, and he made friends wherever he went.

A devoted family man, Dirk cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs on television with his family. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and a Cubs fan through and through.

Dirk treasured the simple moments of life. He enjoyed Tuesday morning coffee with his guy friends, playing cards with his wife and two dear friends, and spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Of course, always close by was his faithful companion, Buster, his beloved dog who was rarely far from his side.

Dirk was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He was the kind of person who never hesitated to help, and his presence was a comfort to those around him. His family and friends will remember him for his generous heart, his loyalty, his sense of friendship, and the countless ways he was there for others.

Dirk was preceded in death by his parents and step-parents, Pat and Paul Tascher and Joe and Cathy Drehobl.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie of 51 years; his daughter, Erica (Joe) Bender; his son, Dirk "Tony"; his grandchildren, Duncan, Zakary, Grace, and Sofia; his sister and three brothers.

Dirk leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a community of family and friends who were fortunate to know him. He will be deeply missed, but his kindness, friendship, and the many helping hands he extended to others will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for those who wish to have a Mass offered in Dirk’s memory. A dedicated Mass in his honor would be a meaningful tribute to his life and faith.

Visitation 5-8 p.m., Friday, October 2, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr., McHenry.  Funeral Mass 10 a.m., Saturday, October 3, at Our Lady of the Lakes-St. Bede Church, 36455 N. Wilson Rd., Ingleside.  All are invited to go directly to the church. Private interment.
