Diana M. Murgatroyd's Obituary

Diana Marie LaBelle Murgatroyd died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at home, surrounded by family.  She was born and raised in Chicago.  She graduated from Alvernic High School.  Through her brothers, she met the love of her life, Charles Murgatroyd.  They were married December 23, 1951.  In April of 1957 the Murgatroyds moved their growing family to Pistakee Highlands.  There they raised 6 children.  Diana lived in the house on Nippersink for 56 years.  The side door was always open to both family and friends.  Diana's brilliant smile greeted visitors along with the standard, "Are you hungry, do you want something to eat?"  She was an excellent cook and baker.  Affectionately known as "Mom Murg," she made time for each visitor.   Raising her 6 children was her primary job; she loved it and did it well.  Family and friends cherish the beautiful quilts she crocheted – the gift of a quilt was a very special gift.  Diana also loved to garden, flowers, read and to watch the birds that would gather around the many feeders in her backyard.  Diana's infectious laugh will be greatly missed.  No one could be with her, hear her laugh and not laugh along with her.

Diana is survived by her children:  Steve (Bethany), Jim (Kim), Bill, Mary (John), and David (Heather), as well as 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  Diana is survived by 7 siblings:  Dick (Emmy), Joe (Ana), Mary Ellen, Marty (Chris), Alex (Judy), Theresa and Kathy.

Preceding her in death are her beloved husband of 50 years Charlie, her daughter Joyce, her parents Emil and Gertrude, in-laws Jack and Ruth, her siblings Leon and Barbara.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 26, from 4 until 9 p.m. at K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be Friday, Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2302 W. Church St., Johnsburg. All are invited to go directly to the church. Interment will be at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
