David V. Olsen, 70, of Johnsburg, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Northwestern McHenry Hospital.  He was born November 30, 1950, in Geneva, to the late James and Phyllis (nee Johnson) Olsen.

David grew up on Long Lake and was a 1968 graduate of Grant Community High School, where he was a star wrestler.  He went on to have a successful, 39-year career as an electrician with IBEW Local Union 150.

David's greatest gift and joy in life were his children and grandchildren, whom he cherished.  David not only coached his children's baseball and softball teams, he was also an ardent fan and supporter who enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's games and events.

Active in the community, David was a long-term member of the "chain gang" for the Johnsburg High School football team, a member of the Johnsburg Community Club, and a longtime coach of both the Johnsburg Boys Baseball and Pigtail Leagues.

Survivors include his beloved wife and best friend, Donna (nee Campbell); loving children, David (Patty) Olsen Jr., Emily (Joe) Booth, Colleen (Nick Malachuk) Olsen, and Christine Olsen; cherished grandchildren, Elijah, Elizabeth, and Esther Olsen, Cheyenne, Darren, and Kelsey Cleveland, Jacob, Jeremy, Joshua, and Kayley Booth, Delaney Olsen, Maddux and Kate Malachuk; family pets, Red and Bert; his many wonderful Dunkin' Donuts coffee cup companions; and his best friends, Dean and Beth Molburg.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his stepmom, Myrna Olsen; in-laws, Robert and Connie Campbell; good friend, Wayne Chinn; and beloved pets, Shadow, Calusa, and Sanibel.

His four favorite words in baseball, Sox win, Cubs lose.

A celebration of David's life will be held Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 1 p.m. until the time of service at 3:30 p.m., at the Johnsburg Community Club, 2315 W. Church St., Johnsburg, IL 60051.
