Caterina Karstens, 91, passed away on Friday, June 4, 2010 in McHenry. She was a former resident of Long Lake, Chicago, and Palatine.

Caterina was born on March 30, 1919, in Chicago, to Joseph and Caroline Laroney. She was united in marriage at our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on August 31st, 1946, and celebrated over 51 years of marriage with the late Eugene Karstens.

Caterina was also involved with several churches, including St. Stephens in Des Plains, St. Edna's in Arlington Heights, and St. Bede in Ingleside.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Eileen (Braxton) Miller of Island Lake, and her grandchildren: Lilyan Goeppner of St. Louis; Bernice (Mike) Conner of Niles; Michael Karstens of Round Lake Beach, Joshua Miller of Island Lake; Peter Miller of Island Lake; and Cassandra Karstens of Round Lake Beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, and her daughter, Edyth Karstens.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 7th from 4:00-8:00 PM at the K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Road in Fox Lake (the Chapel on the Lake). A Chapel service will then be held on Tuesday, June 8th, at 11:00 AM at the All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 700 N. River Road, Des Plains, IL. Entombment will follow.
