Betty L. (Nee Cannon) Ravenscraft's Obituary

Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" (Cannon) Ravenscraft, 83, of Fox Lake, IL. passed on September 13, 2025. Preceded in death by Mother, Anna (LaPorte) Cannon; Father, Harry George Cannon Sr.; Brother-in-law, Theodore Welsch; Sister-in-law, Gerry Cannon; and Son-in-law, Stephen Massoth Sr.

Betty Lou was born in Chicago, IL on January 16, 1942 and grew up a few blocks away from Wrigley Field off of Addison St. She graduated high school from St. Sebastian in Chicago.

During that time, when she was 14 years old, met and started dating her soon to be husband, Charles Ravenscraft Sr. (16 years old at the time). To avoid the advances of other boys, Betty noticed Charles walking in her direction on the sidewalk, pointed to Charles (whom she did not know at the time) and told the other boys, "that's my boyfriend!". Six years later they were married.

Betty and Charles first lived together off of Eddie St. in the upstairs unit of a duplex building owned by Betty's mother, Anna. After the birth of their 4 children, they bought a house and moved to Fox Lake, IL where she lived for 52 years until passing. Betty was a stay at home mother and wife where she devoted her life to her children. Her husband, Charles, is currently living in the home that they shared and raised their family together in.

With an iconic smile and full cheeks, a sense of humor to make anyone laugh, Betty Lou brightened any room that she entered and it was impossible not to notice her. Her smile and sense of humor has transcended the generations to be inherited by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Qualities that will carry on with her family and loved ones; Along with the love for her held in their hearts.

Betty was exceptionally bright and sharp as the valedictorian of her high-school graduating class, and the "secret" author to her grandchildren's school essays and book reports. She remembered every phone number, birthday, graduation, anniversary, life event, and sporting event without failure, and could do so without the need to write anything down. If she did, it was a scribble on an old envelope that she dug out of a drawer.

She was wonderfully creative and artistic. She loved crafts such as making homemade ornaments that still get hung on her family's Christmas trees every year. She wrote poetry that has been published in the Library of Congress, sang in choir, created whimsical nicknames for all of her loved ones, built diaper cakes for every baby shower, and towel cakes for every wedding shower.

Betty's favorite car was the PT Cruiser, she loved roosters, and the cartoon character Betty Boop. So much so that Betty and Charles' home had roosters all over the house and she carried a Betty Boop handbag for a stretch of years in her life.

Most profoundly, Betty Lou was a passionately devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with an unbreakable spirit that was resilient to all challenges of life; All the way to the end. She was always there to help in any way that she could regardless of the season of life that she was enduring simply because she loved deeply and supported unconditionally. She lived fully for her family.

Betty is survived by her husband Charles Ravenscraft Sr.; her children, Diane "Dee" Lojdl (Mike), Ann "Annie" Massoth, Charles "Chuck" Ravenscraft Jr. (Jennifer), and Lora Bur (Kevin); her 8 grandchildren; her 14 great grandchildren; her siblings, Mary Ann (Cannon) Welsch, and Harry George "Bud" Cannon Jr.
