Bernice Savage's Obituary

Bernice C. (Potoniec) Savage
Age 87, of Fox Lake, and a former longtime resident of Lake Villa, and Chicago died Saturday, January 10, 2009 in Fox Lake. She was born on June 1, 1921 in Chicago to Thomas and Mary (nee Kaleta) Potoniec and was united in marriage on September 21, 1946 to Chester P. Savage at Good Shepherd Parish.


Bernice was employed at the Zdenek's and Thompson Truck Stops, both located in Fox Lake, and later worked at F.W. Woolworths. She was a faithful member of Church of The Holy Family in Lake Villa where she had been active as flower chairman, kitchen chairman, and volunteered in the church's thrift shop. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, puzzles, donating to the Round Lake Food pantry, and spending time with her family and friends.


She will be greatly missed by her children, Mary Louise O'Donnell of Colorado, Sharon Savage, Jean (Ron) Kwak , and Thomas Savage, all of Lake Villa, Diana Lynn (Randy) Hillier of Texas, and Michael (Cheryl Gallanati) Savage of Round Lake Park; grandchildren, Peter, Heather, Danny, Paula, Diana and David; great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rose Kaczor of Chicago and Helen Thomas of North Lake; by other relatives and many friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Chester P. Savage on January 22, 1990.


Visitations will on Tuesday, January 13th from 4-8 p.m., and again on Wednesday morning, from 9:30-10:00 a.m., at the K.K. Hamsher Funeral Home 12 North Pistakee Lk. Road Fox Lake, IL 60020 (The Chapel On The Lake) www.kkhamsherfuneralhome.com . An 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Funeral Service will be conducted at Church of The Holy Family 25291 West Lehmann Boulevard Lake Villa, IL 60046 with Rev. A 1:30 p.m. Cem. Commital Prayer will follow at the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel, 120 and Hunt Club Road in Libertyville.


Memorials to the Church will be appreciated by the family.
