Barbara Hill DeHoff, 58, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012. Born in Waukegan, Ill. on July 23, 1953, Barbara grew up in Fox Lake, where she attended Grant Community High School, graduating in 1971. She earned her associate degree in nursing from the College of Lake County in 1977 and her B.S. in health arts from St. Francis College in 1995. She worked as a nurse in Illinois, Colorado, Missouri and North Carolina, before moving to Albuquerque in 1992. Most recently, she worked as an operating room nurse at Lovelace Hospital from 1992 until her retirement in 2008. She had been an active member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses, and served as president of the Albuquerque chapter from 1996 to 1997. She is survived by her husband, Harold DeHoff; her daughter, Carrie Sampson and her granddaughter, Jordan Sampson, both of Albuquerque; and her brother, Major Hill of Ingleside, Ill. An animal lover, Barbara was rarely without at least one dog in her life. She leaves two dogs and two cats behind. Prior to her illness, Barbara led an active life. She enjoyed skiing, and had served as an adaptive ski instructor at Santa Fe and Sandia ski areas. Barbara also enjoyed hiking, bicycling and travel. She gave generously of her time to charitable causes, including Project Share in Albuquerque and Casas por Cristo in El Paso. Barbara had been an active member of St. Chad's Episcopal Church since 2005. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the K.K.
